Patrick WG Mallon, MD


Dr Mallon is Associate Dean for Research and Innovation within the School of Medicine, University College Dublin and an Infectious Diseases Specialist at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin. Dr Mallon graduated in medicine from Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland and underwent training in infectious diseases in Sydney, Australia, where he completed a PhD examining antiretroviral toxicities.


Dr Mallon heads the HIV Molecular Research Group, which focuses on translational research into toxicities of antiretroviral therapy, including cardiovascular disease, adipose tissue toxicity and bone disease. Other research interests include implementation research into HIV testing and prevention and increasing research capacity in resource limited settings, with ongoing collaborations with the University of Zimbabwe. Dr Mallon sits on the European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS) Guidelines Panel. He has published more than ninety peer-reviewed manuscripts and also acts as a reviewer numerous international peer-reviewed medical journals including JAMA, JID, CID, PLoS Medicine and AIDS.
